Oral Pathology

When people think “oral surgery” they most commonly think of procedures related to bone. However, it is important that the skin and soft tissue in your mouth also receives your attention.

CVOS Oral Surgery has a team of highly specialized oral pathologists on staff to examine and diagnose suspicious lumps and sores in the mouth that may be the early signs of oral cancer.

If you have an immediate concern, please visit your family dentist immediately for an initial assessment and, if necessary, a referral to CVOS Oral Surgery.

Like most forms of cancer, it is advisable to perform regular self-exams to catch possible issues early on.

Why is Oral Pathology Important?

The lining of the inside of your mouth is a special type of skin that should appear smooth and coral pink in color. When the appearance of the skin changes, it could be a warning sign.

The following can also indicate the beginning of oral cancer:

These indicators might be detected on your lips, cheeks, palate, or gums around the teeth, tongue, face and/or neck.

Pain is not always associated with oral cancer. However, if you are experiencing any facial or oral pain without an obvious cause or reason, you may be at risk for oral cancer.

Remember that your mouth is one of your body’s most important warning systems. Do not ignore suspicious lumps or sores!
