Expertise. Reliability. Integrity.
One of the most common bone grafting procedures in the upper jaw, a sinus lift may be recommended when you do not have sufficient bone separating your (maxillary) sinuses and your mouth to ensure the successful placement of implants to replace your upper teeth.
Your sinuses are empty air-filled spaces that lie behind your cheeks and on top of your upper teeth.
When placing implants, it is extremely important to have enough good quality bone available to that the implant will remain strong and stable for a long time. When this is not the case, this procedure will lift the sinus floor allowing new bone to form.
Your CVOS surgical team will advise you if this is a treatment you should consider and answer any questions you may have.
A typical sinus lift involves making a small incision to expose the jawbone. A small cut is made into this bone so that the membrane lining of the sinus can be pushed upward. The space created is then filled with grafting material (natural or synthetic) to help facilitate new bone growth. After several months of healing, the new bone is ready for dental implants to be placed.
A sinus lift is generally performed by the expert surgeons at CVOS Oral Surgery under local anesthesia and IV sedation. The sinus graft makes it possible for many patients to have dental implants when years ago there was no other option besides wearing loose dentures.
